The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has stopped 58 medical doctors from going to the UK. The doctors wanted to leave the country via a chartered flight through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos yesterday.

In a statement released by Sunday James, the NIS spokesman, it was discovered that the doctors had planned to sneak out of the country through the Lagos airport.

He further revealed that 56 out of the 58 doctors who intended to travel had no valid UK visas and would have been repatriated when they arrived in the UK.

He said that the Nigerian Immigration Service will not take it lightly with individuals or groups of well-educated Nigerians who are in the know about the necessary steps to take before leaving the country and the guidelines for being safe during the COVID19 pandemic, and still want to flout the rules.

He reiterated that the Nigerian airspace is still closed to international flights, and that the chartered flight has already left without the doctors.
