It was a great opportunity blown away by Juventus on Thursday night, one that could well cost them their ambitions of a ninth successive Serie A title.
Second half goals from IIija Nestorovski and Seko Fofana gave brought Udinese from behind to defeat Serie A leaders Juventus.
Juventus were six points clear and just needed a win against a relegation fighter to win the Scudetto, Inter Milan on Wednesday gave Juventus an opportunity to clinch the title after playing out a goaless draw with Fiorentina. But Sarri’s men were unable to clinch that opportunity as they succumbed to a humiliating 2-1 loss at the hands of Udinese.
Matthis de Ligt(42) gave the visitors a late first half lead to set the League leaders on their path to victory. But on return to the second half the coin was flipped the other way as the goals played hard to get for Juventus. Failing to add to their lead,llija Nestorovski levelled matters for Udinese at the Dasia Arena with a stunning Flying header in the 52nd minute.
Juventus did all their best to get a winner, but all efforts were fruitless.
A Draw was in sight, but to the amazement of the Juve squad, Seko Fortuna(92) got an amazing stoppage time winner for Udinese to put the party celebrations on hold for Juventus.
As it stands Juventus remain six points above Atalanta in the Serie A standings. This defeat further extends Juventus’ bad run of forms as the league comes to a climax. A form which has seen them won just one out of their last five matches.
Udinese’s victory means that Atalanta, Lazio and Inter Milan all still have a shot at replacing Juventus at the top spot with just Three matches left to play..
Juve would look to really wrap things up on Sunday against Sampdoria as Udinese take on Cagliari to secure their Survival.
