Governor Bello Inaugurates Kogi State Environmental Task Force

The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, ably represented by the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward David Onoja was today, the 28th of July, present at the Banquet Hall of the Government House to Inaugurate the Environmental Task Force aimed at promoting sanitation in Kogi State and primarily, the State Capital, Lokoja.

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward David Onoja said that the Task Force is saddled with ensuring that the gains and strides recorded in Kogi State even before the onset of the second tenure does not go to waste. Those actions, he declared, moved Lokoja from the second dirtiest State Capital to the second cleanest State Capital in Nigeria.

He however urged the task force to take a leaf out of the mantra for the second tenure, ensuring that they “Do More” in the area of sanitation. He appreciated the sheer experience and diversity of the members, banking on their ability to deliver and chart the task force in a direction that will make Kogi State rank even higher in the area of environmental sanctity nationwide.

The Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Victor Omofaiye, who gave the vote opening remark, highlighted the passion of Governor Yahaya Bello in keeping Kogi clean as the motive behind the ministry’s giant strides in recent times. Omofaiye made it known that Lokoja became one of the cleanest Capitals in Nigeria by the deliberate action of the State Government in hiring private waste collectors to keep the state clean, which in turn, has generally given the State Capital a facelift.

He said that the Task Force will enforce the stringent laws aimed at keeping Kogi clean, stopping the Encroachment of persons on government land, Erection of illegal structures, Operation of illegal markets, indiscriminate dumping of waste, promoting the beautification of some historical sites and many more.

He assured the Governor and the people of Kogi State on the ability of the task force to execute the momentous task at hand.
