Adamawa Govt to establish peace & conflict resolution Commission

The Adamawa State Government will establish Peace and Conflict Resolution and Social Integration Commission which will develop and implement strategies that would promote peace and harmonious coexistence in the state.

The Commission will observe the principles of impartiality, fairness, transparency, justice, protection of human rights in handling cases and put an end to ethno-religious disturbances, communal and seasonal crisis through involvement of all stakeholders in decision making.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri disclosed this when he received leadership of the Church of Brethren in Nigeria known as Ekilisiyar ‘Yan Uwa Anajeriya EYN led by its National President, Reverend Doctor Joel Billi on a courtesy call in the Government House, Yola on Wednesday.

The Governor said government will look into the law of the commission passed by the State Assembly for establishment and declared that only capable men and women of proven integrity will be appointed to work in the commission stressing that no politician will be appointed.

He said that his administration will continue to create synergy with security agencies in the state towards fighting criminality, in addition government has identified two hundred and fifty members of vigilante group that will be trained by Police for better security of the state.

Governor Umaru Fintiri thanked the leadership of EYN for the visit and congratulated Reverend Billi for his reelection as President of the Church and counselled him to continue with the good work he has been doing and carry everybody along.

Earlier in his remark, the National President of EYN Reverend Doctor Joel Billi called on Governor Umaru Fintiri to intervene in the lingering security threats bedevilling some areas in the northern part of Adamawa where farmers were prevented from going to their farms which is a threat to food insecurity.

Reverend Billi told the Governor that since the establishment of the North East Development Commission, northern part of the state has not gotten any impact from the commission and urged for the Governor’s intervention for the development of the zone ravaged by insurgency.

He appreciated Governor Umaru Fintiri for his style of leadership in the state which he noted will record him in the annals history of Adamawa as the Governor that embrace all people regardless of religious or tribal differences and urged him to maintain the spirit.
