Public outrage as more than 15 people die in Enugu state gov’t owned cottage hospital in Oduma, Aninri local government area of the state.
Most of the patients went to the hospital to treat minor illness only to got infected with dangerous diseases from the decayed hospital bed. A 75 yrs old man we saw at the hospital Elder Chukwuanyim said he has been here for 6 days but no doctor or any drug was given to him. In his words, “my condition has become worse since I came here, my daughter brings food and water for me everyday, I want to live more that is why i came here but now I don’t have any choice. I want my daughter to take me home but i can’t work bcus my legs and body are in pains.
Oduma reporters had earlier warned of a possible outbreak of infection from the hospital. There is no electricity or generator, no water supply, no doctor only local nurses and midwives, no drugs for patients, the roof of the buildings are open, snakes and other reptiles cohabiting with patients at night.
We are warning the general public to desist from sending their sick children or aged parents to this hospital, since govt has abandoned us, it’s better they die at home than this death paradise.
Gov ifeanyi ugwuanyi has remained deaf and dumb to the cries of the people. The local government chairman of Aninri local government Mr Ezekiel chukwu is even from this community and that is a shame to him.
