Jonathan is ECOWAS’ Special Envoy seeking to end the political impasse, which has led to mass protests in the country.

Both men met recently on the issue before President travelled to Mali along with other West African leaders in his first trip outside the country since the advent of the coronavirus pandemic.

Since then, former President Jonathan had returned to Mali and is believed to have apprised President Buhari on his latest effort.
