Malnutrition: Gombe procures, distributes ‘ready to use food’

Gombe state Government has procured and distributed Ready to Use Therapeutic Food, RUTF in its determination to address issues of acute malnutrition among children in the state.

The Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Abdulrahman Shuaibu while performing the distribution exercise in Gombe, disclosed that the sum of twenty five million (25,000,000) had already been released by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya as counterpart fund to the United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF for the procurement of one thousand one hundred and fifty nine ( 1,158) cartons of RUTF.

This, he said, followed a 2018 National Nutrition and Health Survey (NNHS) which indicates that Gombe is among the states with high incidences of malnutrition among children.

To this end, the state was selected to benefit from Community Management of Acute Malnutrition, CMAM, a community based programme aimed at managing severe acute malnourished children at the primary health facilities.

CMAM is currently being implemented in Akko, Dukku, Gombe, Kaltungo and Nafada Local Government Areas of the State.
