Lampard happy with Chelsea’s new goalkeeper, Mendy as he makes his debut in Carabao cup defeat to Tottenham. Werner opens his account for Chelsea but Mount’s costly penalty miss sends Spurs through.

Timo Werner scored his First Chelsea goal in a Competitive play last night against Tottenham Hotspur. But it wasn’t enough to secure victory for his side as Tottenham went on to win on penalties to book their spot in the EFL quarter-finals.

It was 1-1 at full time play after Erik Lamela who started off as a makeshift striker put the ball past debutant goally, Edouard Mendy to equalise for Spurs in the 83rd minute. A goal that was enough to push the game to extra time and furthermore to penalty kicks.

Both teams were doing well in the shootout scoring 9 goals in the process up until Mason Mount of Chelsea clipped the outside of the left post with his attempt thereby handing victory to Spurs.

It could have been Chelsea’s 14th quarter in 20 seasons if they had won but wasn’t meant to be.

Chelsea made eight changes to the side that drew against West Brom in the weekend’s EPL encounter, handing full debuts to Ben Chillwell and Edouard Mendy. Tottenham made nine changes to the side that drew against Newcastle Harry Kane dropping to the bench .
