Late Jerry Rawling Brief Biography

Jerry John Rawlings took power in Ghana after a military coup on June 4, 1979, and handed over to a civilian government after just 112 days. The civilian president, Hilla Limann promptly retired Rawlings from the Ghana Air Force.

However, Rawlings regained power by overthrowing the weak civilian government of Limann on December 31, 1981, just two years after, and imprisoned the president with some 200 other politicians. He would then go on to rule Ghana for the next 20 years.

Jerry Rawlings died on November 12, 2020, in Accra, Ghana’s capital city. His death came two months after that of his mother, Victoria Agbotui, on September 24, 2020. He was 73.
