If 40-year-old Joshua Kalu Chukwu, knew that a 12-year-old girl, Goodness (other names withheld) could send him to prison, he would have avoided the girl, no matter how horny he was on 2nd February, 2018.
In fact, not even the oranges she was hawking, could even hungry him that night.
But Chukwu, a trader from Abia State, did not know as after buying oranges worth N130 from Goodness, refused to pay the minor, but instead asked her to accompany him to his house at 10 Etuk Street, Uyo to get the money.
As innocent as Goodness was, she followed Chukwu with a bucket of oranges on her head, inside his one room apartment, where he grapped the minor, removed her pants and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
According to the girl, plea for Chukwu to let her go even after the sex from 8pm to midnight, proved abortive, as he taunted that nobody will come to her rescue, even if she cried on top of her voice, except she spent the whole night with him.
The minor said she managed to escape when she told Chukwu that she want to make use of the toilet, when she alerted youths of Etuk Street who informed the Police.
That few minutes pleasure has landed Chukwu in Uyo Correctional Centre as he is to spend the next seven years in custody, following his conviction today for sexually abusing the SS 1 student.
Chukwu, was sentenced this morning by the Akwa Ibom State High Court, sitting in Uyo and presided over by Justice Okon Okon.
Justice Okon, in his judgment, found the accused guilty of sexually exploiting the girl, punishable under the Child Rights Law of Akwa Ibom State.
He sentenced Chukwu to seven years without option of fine.
