Petrol Tank Rammed into tricycle, Motorcycle Killed Seven

It was a black Monday in Ntak Inyang, Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, as seven persons, including a family of three, lost their lives in a fatal road accident at the failed portion of Calabar Itu Highway, near the state Broadcasting Corporation’s Transmitting Station.

Eyewitnesses accounts have it that the incident occurred when a truck conveying petroleum product rammed into a tricycle and a motorcycle, conveying the victims, among them a student, who was on her way to school.

It was also gathered that the vehicles were on one of the lanes of the Highway, because of the closure of the other part of the road for months, following the repair of the failed portion of the road.

The tank truck, with registration number: NSR-04-XP, had been set on fire by a mob at the scene of the accident before the arrival of policemen.

A relative of three of the victims, Mr. Victor Archibong Akpan Udofia Umo, a native of Usuk Aka Ididep, Ibiono Ibom told AKBC News at the mortuary, where the deceased were taken that the incident was horrible.

He said three of the victims were from one family in a village in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.

Mr. Umo appealed for compensation from the State Government to assuage the terrible loss suffered by the family of the deceased.

It is observed that after the accident, the other portion of the Highway which has been closed for months, was opened for traffic.
