The Operation Vanguard task force in the Ashanti region has in the last two weeks embarked on an operation to suppress the activities of illegal miners on the Oda and Offin rivers, as well as in other areas within the communities.
The taskforce arrested five people including two Chinese nationals.
Four other suspects claiming to be members of the national security personnel who were greeted in one of the areas providing protection to the site have also arrested its leader, Yusif Fuseini, and are assisting the police in the investigation.
The task force has destroyed thirty (30) platforms mounted with changfan machines.
An AK-47 assault rifle, a magazine full of 13 live ammunition, three bomb-action pistols with nine active cartridges have also been seized.
