Lagos State office of the state surveyor general Host Nigeria governors forum secretariat

The Office of the Surveyor-General of Lagos State has hosted personnel of the Nigeria Governors Forum Secretariat, who visited its headquarters to familiarise themselves with the Geographic Information Systems of the Lagos State Government, which has the State Surveyor-General as one of the user agencies.

The team lead, Mr. Olanrewaju Ajogbasile, said the tour was in continuation of a three-day study tour of some agencies of the State Government to acquire first-hand knowledge on the trends that have made Lagos excel.

Welcoming the team, the Permanent Secretary and Surveyor-General, Mr. Olutomi Sangowawa, represented by the Director, Cadastral – Surveyor Ayo Adesina, expressed delight that the NGF secretariat representatives from Sokoto, Gombe, Nassarawa, Delta and Ekiti States, amongst others, found it worthy to visit the State, especially the Office of the Surveyor-General, to understudy the good work being done by professionals in the establishment.

While noting that the team had visited other agencies of the State Government such as Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, Lands Bureau and the Ministry of Finance, the representative of the Permanent Secretary/Surveyor General ensured the visitors got adequate and detailed information that could be put into practice in the different States to foster excellence and better service delivery.

“Your team will be acquainted with the processes, procedures, systems and technology deployed by the OSSG in the daily use of the Geographic Information Systems Unit and also be informed about challenges as well as recommendations in overcoming any identified problems”, the Permanent Secretary said.

Surv. Sangowawa expressed confidence that the formidable team of professionals in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) unit will expose the visitors to details that have made Lagos leverage technology to provide top-notch services to stakeholders, including MDAs and the public.

Surveyor Adesina, thereafter, led the team around to observe operations using the advanced, hybrid System and Technology of CORS, ESRI and other applications within the Geographic Information Systems Unit, in company of the Director, Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Ajayi Adeniyi; Director, Finance and Accounts, Mr. Abdulgafar Bakare; Director Control, Boundary & Mapping, Surv. Olalekan Odupe; Head GIS, Surv. Mutiu Akintoye and Surv. Folami amongst others.

He appreciated the team and promised that the Office of the State Surveyor-General would continue to perform its responsibilities as professional surveyors because of the passion for progress to achieve the State Government’s vision for a Greater Lagos.

The Office of the Surveyor-General is the official organ in charge of all the survey needs relating to State Government property. It is also the industry regulator backed by the Survey Law of 1984 that allows it to implement and carry out its duties. All analogue data has been upgraded to digital format, putting into consideration the growth and population in the State, to meet modern-day needs in respect of survey documents.
