Upper Respiratory Track (URT)

Upper Respiratory Track (URT) can be defined as the part of the body connecting insides respiratory organs with outside world, that help facilitate exchange of substance within in and out of the Body.

Upper Respiratory Track are Respiratory organs mostly found in the upper part of the body.

Nose is one part of Upper respiratory track. It help  in taken in Oxygen and expelled carbon dioxide from the body.

Mouth use for eating is part of Upper respiratory tract.

Other part of Upper Respiratory track include Throat, nasal cavity and voice box.

According to Medical dictionary;

the major passages and structures of the upper respiratory tract include the nose or nostrils, nasal cavity, mouth, throat (pharynx), and voice box (larynx). The respiratory system is lined with a mucous membrane that secretes mucus. The mucus traps smaller particles like pollen or smoke. Hairlike structures called cilia line the mucous membrane and move the particles trapped in the mucus out of the nose. Inhaled air is moistened, warmed, and cleansed by the tissue that lines the nasal cavity.

Upper Respiratory Track Infection

This are infections that often affect Mouth, Throat, nostrils and nasal cavity.

Throat

Infections that affect throat is referred to as Sore Throat.

Most of the sore throat infection are caused by  viruses.

Below are some of the major disease of mouth and throat, their situations and infectious agents

Sore Throat

Sore Throat is also referred as Streptococcal Pharyngitis.

As the name implies, the disease is caused by Beta-Haemolytic streptococcus, (Streptococcus pyogenes) is the species that is responsible for Sore Throat.

Diphtheria

Diphtheria is an infections that affect nose. Serious diphtheria can make breathing difficult.

The Bacteria responsible for Diphtheria is called Corynebacterium Diphtheriae.

Acute Epiglottitis in Children

Is an infections of Epiglottis in children, the infections is acute, not that serious

It is often cause by Hemophilus Influenzae.

Oral throat in young children, Diabetics and immunocompromised person.

It often cause by Candida Albicans.

Stomatitis

Is a condition that results in a painful swelling and sores inside the mouth.

Stomatitis may be caused by a disease, an infection, an allergic reaction or irritating foods or chemicals.

Vincent Organisms is one of the microorganisms responsible for the disease.

Vincent angina or Vincent gingivitis

The causative agent are Borrelia Vincenti, Leptospira buccalis and Bacteroides Melaninogenicus, (Prevotella Melaninogenicus).
