VAT: Appeal Court Rule in Favour of Lagos State Govt

Appeal court has rule in favour of Lagos State government over Value Added Tax collection.

Report by people Gazette, revealed that Abuja Division of the appeal Court has on Thursday granted an application by Lagos State Government to be joined as a party in the suit filled by Federal Inland Revenue Service against collection of value added tax by state governments.

In his ruling, Justice Haruna Tsammani ruled that Lagos state government has been able to establish that it has a direct and legal interest to the subject matter of the appeal.

Mr Tsammani granted the reliefs sought on the originating summons by Lagos government and made them third respondent in the suit.

The judge adjourned the matter to October 7. He then moved the matter to Port-Harcourt for further hearing.

He ordered parties to be served the amended processes.

FIRS, at the last adjourned date, through its counsel Mohammed Magaji (SAN), prayed the court to discountenance the application of the Lagos State Government.
