Customs Area Controller for Port Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command in Lagos, Comptroller Festus Okun has disclosed that more auto Importers are now coming to use the port for their imported vehicles.
Speaking to reporters at a media parley in Lagos, Okun said between January and September 2021 a total of 171,491 units of vehicles were imported through the port.
Within the same period of the first nine months of 2020, the command processed 97,361 vehicles showing a difference of 74,130 units.
Okun had announced in 2020 that his command processes compliant auto Importation lodged in the customs zone within 4 hours.
While urging smugglers of vehicles across borders to desist from such practice, Okun said PTML provides the solution to ease of clearance with clearly defined Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), in an atmosphere of trade facilitation and ease of doing business.
Giving a full comparative breakdown of the command’s activities for the third quarter of 2021 with 2020, Comptroller Okun said a total of 115 vessels berthed as at end of third quarter 2020 while in 135 berthed at the port as at ending of September 2021.
For Containers, a total of 26,613 boxes were processed by end of September 2021 while 23,300 were processed last year same period.
For general cargo, the 2020 figure was higher than 2021. For 2020 a total of 31,095 packages were recorded while as of September 30, 2021, a total of 22,716 packages were processed.
On total revenue collected so far this year, Comptroller Okun said a total of N165,021,614,645,00 was collected as revenue to the Federal Government for the nine months of the year 2021 (January to September).
This, according to him, shows an increase of N26, 986,656,533.00 billion above the N138, 034,958,112.00 that was collected within the same period of last year which represents a 20% percent increase of the Command’s revenue.
The issuance of demand notices (DNS) from uncovered revenue shortfalls within the period under review amounted to N865, 449,258.00.
In the months under review, a total number of 145 ships berthed at the PTML terminal carrying 26,613 containers and 171,491 imported vehicles between January and September 2021.
He added that the Command handled export goods with a total tonnage of Seventy- thousand (118,460,38) metric tons, with a total Free on Board (FOB) value of Eight hundred and thirty-two billion, nine hundred and sixty-six million, five hundred and fifteen thousand, three hundred and sixty-eight naira, forty-nine kobo. (N832, 966,515,368.49) only.
He disclosed also that the command has built a robust customs community relations that encourages seamless operations with officers of the command showing good examples to other stakeholders as a way of achieving maximum compliance.
