We’re Indigenous Igbos In Kogi State

By Maazị Ogbonnaya Okoro II

He is an encyclopedia. We were riding pass his house on motorcycle and he waved at us, my spirit instructed me immediately to stop and go meet him.

I tapped the ọkada man who stopped immediately and reversed. I went to him with a smile. He smiled back at me. I greeted.

That’s how I got a new friend.

This man cut open my skull and filled it with history.

I asked him:

“Ị bụ onye Ịgala?”

He said to me:

“Mba. Anyị ncha bụ ndị Igbo mana anyị bi n’ala Ịgala”.

When translated:

[We’re all Igbo but we live in the land of Ịgala]

This is an excerpt from all he said to me. He’s referring to the entire community which stretched so wide. We recorded over 6 communities here entirely Igbo. We went through the bush paths and found people living there, in that government doesn’t even know some are existing.

E mere ndị Igbo ihe. Papa was very happy because I parted him with gift after the information and discussion maka na a naghị agba aka ahụ eze.

He was so happy to meet me considering the fact that some ndị Igbo are still asking questions about them.

I have some videos on him.

He said to me:

“Anọ m ebe a. Bịakwa ọzọ nwa m” [I am here. Come next time my son]

He looked forward to seeing me again, likewise here.

When we see ourselves, we know ourselves.

Information yakpa!

When the Papa said they are Igbo living in Ịgala land, I wanted to understand that.

I asked him, did you people migrate from anywhere to this place. He said no. It has been their ancestral land.

What he was talking about is State creation. Igbo living in Kogi under Ịgala dorminated authority. Remember, there are many communities we are talking about. All have Igbo names. I even went to the markets in different communities.

Well, once I am done gathering everything, I will document.

However, this is an unbiased research. Ndị kwe ma ndị ekweghị and why, must be told.
