Ibukun Awosika, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, others grace 2022 Agility conference

The Regional Scrum Gathering, an initiative of Scrum Alliance, held its Virtual 3-days Agility Conference from Tuesday, the 5th of April 2022 to Thursday, the 7th of April 2022.

The conference themed “Agility for Competitive Advantage – Africa’s Time is Now” featured 15 Speakers across different industries which included Ibukun Awosika, Dr Ola Brown, Founder Flying Doctors Nigeria, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji Co-founder of Flutterwave, among other international speakers with topics of discussions focused on 21st-century leadership, disruptive innovation ideas and ground breaking insights that would affect Africa’s economy at large.

Ibukun Awosika urged leaders in the Nigerian tech space to be role models and positive influencers of technological advancement in the country. She said ‘’As leaders, frankly, we cannot make people do what we say if they don’t see us do what we are saying’’. She also called for patience from the leaders in their quest to impart their knowledge on others, while considering the strengths and limitations of the others as well as helping them overcome those limitations to achieve their set goals. In her keynote address at the opening session of the virtual conference, she emphasized the need for tech leaders to be actively involved and collaborate with policy makers and regulators in government to create an enabling space. ‘’As a group, you need to find ways to educate and to empower them with information and you need to keep that conversation going until you achieve your goals.”

Also speaking at the virtual conference, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji Co-founder of Flutterwave, revealed that agility is the bedrock of success as it has the potential to train people to be meticulous in their craft. With regard to young innovators in Africa, he urged the next generation of techies to engender positive mindsets. He said, “Your attitude is key, your mindset is key. All the things that will harm you are not knowing the technical work but not having right mindset and attitude.”

In conclusion, Coach Aanu Gopald, Convener, Regional Scrum Gathering Nigeria, expressed her profound optimism and belief for the African tech space to develop faster and its inherent potential. She said “In this era of unprecedented change, the ability for Africa to move faster than the global market in day-to-day decision making and capability development has become a competitive advantage.”
