Following the sad release of the Nigerian Bar Association that the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State had refused to further entertain the case of Inibehe Effiong even in the face of failure of the Chief Judge to follow due process in the contempt proceedings that led to the sentencing of the lawyer which also constitutes a breach of the Inibehe’s right to fair hearing, lawyers of like minds who entertain a reasonable apprehension that if we give up helplessly this way without pursuing further this matter and get this trend reversed and discouraged, it may be the end of NBA as a force to reckon with in the protection of rule of law and the protection of its members who suffer daily harassment in the hands of the police and some judges in the country, we will be coming together to press further for a mass action and call on the NBA to call for a nationwide action to protest against victimisation of lawyers by both the law enforcement agents and the courts in the country, which is now fast becoming a routine and calling more resolutely for the release of Inibehe Effiong and for an end to other forms of victimisation of lawyers in the course of carrying out their duties.
