Information minister, Lai Mohammed, has told streaming platforms to expand their business in Nigeria if they want to remain in the country.
Mohammed’s statement comes as Nigeria’s new series Blood Sisters draws widespread acclaim on the Netflix platform.
Netflix, Amazon and other streaming services have gained increased popularity among Nigeria’s roughly 200 million people, although the companies have yet to grow their business activities to the government’s satisfaction.
In a statement signed on his behalf by Segun Adeyemi, Special Assistant to the President (Media), Office of the Minister of Information and Culture, Mohammed called on companies offering streaming services to increase their local investment, including opening offices and increasing the local content on their platforms, if they wish to do business in Nigeria.
