Statistical correlation

        Correlation

Correlation is statistical tools that are used to study the relationship between the two variable. This studies assist in revealing the magnitude of association between two set of variable.

With knowledge of correlation we can predict if the existence of a variable has effect on another variable. There are three ways of studying correlation, they are;

  1. Scatter diagram
  2. Graphic method
  3. Coefficient of correlation

Scatter Diagram

It one of the easiest method that ensure that correlation between two variable are plotted on chart as scatter diagram.

As we all know, graph are plotted on the value of x, y, where y is on the vertical axis and x is on the horizontal axis. X is an independent variable while y is a dependent variable. What it means is that y only change with change in the value of x, which in another y is the function of x f(x).

Example the height of the tree is on the x axis while the number of the fruit is on the y axis. Then we will can make use of the following scatter diagram;
