Appointments: If some ministers return, Buhari will lose Nigerians’ trust – El-Rufai’s son

Bello, son of Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed reservation over the recent appointments by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari had approved the re-appointment of Boss Mustapha as secretary to the government of the federation and Abba Kyari as chief of staff to the president.

This was disclosed in a statement by presidential aide, Garba Shehu, who said both appointments took effect from May 29, 2019.

Reacting to the appointments on Twitter, Bello said if Buhari re-appoints same set of ministers, he would lose the trust of Nigerians. “But recent appointments aside, if some Ministers return, well, that trust will become very unsteady. We are not PDP, you will hear us!” Bello tweeted in the early hours of Saturday, July 6.

While some of his followers criticised him, others agreed with him, expressing worry over the appointments.

While Nigerians await the ministerial list, President Buhari also approved the re-appointment of his personal physician, Dr Suhayb Rafindadi and 10 other personal staff.

It has been over a month Buhari started his second term as president and Nigerians have expressed concerns that he is yet to appoint ministers. Recall that it took Buhari took six months before he could constitute a cabinet in his first term in office in 2015.

The current delay in appointing his ministers is reportedly seen as bad for the nation’s economy as foreign investors reduce inputs.

The Nigeria president’s action has been compared to his Senegalese and South African contemporaries; Macky Sall and Cyril Ramaphosa, who both appointed their cabinets within days of being sworn in as presidents in 2019.
