Nasarawa Assembly set up committee to investigates LG finances

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly,has set up six-man committee to investigate the finances of the state ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs over non payment of June salary to Local Government staff and other unnecessary deduction of Local Government funds in the state.

Rt.Hon.Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi made this known while constituting the committee after Mr. Danladi Jatau(PDP-Kokona West) raised the issue under the matter of public interest during the House proceedings in Lafia.

The speaker said that it was disheartening and unfortunate that up till now, June salary of the local government staff has not been paid.

“What is happening in the Local government is sad and unfortunate, why is it that 16 days after, June salary of the local government staff has not been paid.

“We cannot fold our hands to see our brothers and sisters who are working at the local government suffering.

“I appreciate Hon Danladi Jatau for raising the matter and other members for contributing positively on the matter.

“It is on this note that, I will set up six-man committee to include Hon Mohammed Alkali of Lafia North constituency as the chairman and Mr Ego Maikeffi, the clerk of the House to serve as Secretary of the committee.

“Hon. Danladi Jatau(PDP-Kokona West),Hon. Ibrahim Muluku(APC-Nassarawa Eggon East), Hon. John Osewu(PDP-Doma South) as members.

“other members of the committee are Hon. Daniel Ogazi(APC-Kokona East),Hon.Abdulaziz Danladi(Keffi East, “he said .

Balarabe Abdullahi directed the committee to swing into action and submit their reports on Monday July 22.

The speaker said that the House would continue to ensure that the right things are done in the interest of the state and for the overall development of the country.

Earlier, Danladi Jatau(PDP-Kokona West),the Minority Leader of the House while raising the matter expressed concern over non payment of June salary to the local staff in the state.

“Let us investigate what is happening with the finances of the Local government in the state on why Local government staff salary has not been paid, “he said.

The House unanimously agreed for the constitution of the committee to look into the matter.
