“Starting from JAMB to UMTE, one goes through hell to secure admission in Nigeria.
That is not enough. After admission into Nigerian University, it can take a student seven days to generate remittance, and another two days for the receipt to be issued.
From there the real nightmare starts.
Screening takes two weeks, faculty registration another one week and departmental registration another one week.
To get the full import of Nigeria’s backwardness, one needs to get admission into a Ghanaian university and compare the systems.
We have seen admissions sought and got from somebody’s bedroom.
Once acceptance and fees are paid which can be done in matter of seconds, the students get school number, passwords for library and school email and class.
Registration is completed in matter of hours with accommodation and medicals which will be done on arrival at the school.
After sixty years and still counting, our university system is at 19th century level.”
