Niger Resuscitates Law Restricting Movement of Motorcycles Operators in Minna and Environs

Niger state Government has announced that it is resuscitating the law restricting movement of motorcycles from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. in Minna and environs.

A statement issued by Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane warned commercial motorcyclists, popularly called Okada or Kabu-Kabu and other operators of motorcycles in Minna and environs to desist from carrying more than one passenger at a time.

The SSG further called on the operators of tricycles to also desist from overloading of their tricycles, adding that the resuscitation of the law restricting movement of motorcycles in Minna and environs which will commence on Saturday, 15th February, 2020 became necessary following polarized security situation in the State, signposted by sustained violent attacks, abduction and killing of mostly innocent citizens by bandits, kidnappers and cattle rustlers.

All motorcycles and tricycles operators must ensure that they obtained plate number from Board of Internal Revenue, this is in line with the ammended Niger State Road Transport Traffic Law 2015, the statement added.

Niger State which had long been reputed as the most peaceful State in the country today has that status put to a tricky test by armed bandits, therefore all hands must be on deck to secure the State from the unnecessary security challenges that it has witnessed for sometime now, Ahmed Matane pointed out.

The SSG explained that the present security challenges in the State are without doubt troubling times for the government and the citizens, particularly those directly affected by the heinous activities of the faceless criminals, and the Governor Abubakar Sani Bello led administration is leaving no stones unturned in its bid to restore peace, orderliness, sanity and calm.
