The Sin Of Saraki

By Demond Ohinforia

In the Year 2015, 108 Senators were elected to represent their constituencies in the Senate.

On the 9th of June 2015 the 8th Assembly was to be inaugurated but only 57 out of the 108 Senators were on ground in the Assembly complex to choose their leader and officially declare the 8th Assembly open for national business.
The rest of the elected Senators abandoned their national responsibilities for a cocktail party with Buhari at the ICC.

The 57 faithful Senators available had 49 from PDP and 8 from APC.

Those available unanimously voted in the charismatic Saraki as the President of the senate.
The APC SIN-ators that were elected to be in the National Assembly were in the ICC shouting “Sai baba”.

That is the height of national irresponsibility, in a sane society with a system that works, such irresponsible politicians should have been recalled and prosecuted for gross negligence.
Instead, the few ones who reported to duty and were prepared to carry out their respective National assignments were villified.

Dr Bukola Saraki was among the APC Senators, but he is not a man given to frivolities.

He was a man dedicated to national duties and not answerable to an elected President but his people.
The legislature is not an arm or part of the Executive, it is an independent institution and must be seen so.

The President of Nigeria is not the chairman or the leader of the national assembly. He has no constitutional powers to disrupt  the activities of the national Assembly.
What on Earth were people elected to represent their constituencies at the national level doing with the President in a cocktail party on such an important day as the inauguration of the 8th Assembly?
Well, Dr Saraki Saraki was elected accordingly by his colleagues to lead them.

His action showed a man that was business minded.

He refused to be anyone’s hand bag.

He refused to allow anyone abuse or defile the honor of that institution.

He saw and kept the will of Nigerians as Paramount.
Dr Bukola Saraki is a National Hero!
