Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has denied the report attributed to him, calling on the federal government to slash civil servants salaries during this lockdown.
The report which has already gone viral witness condemnation from Nigerians and beyond.
The senator who debunked the report in statement made available to the media on the 10th of June 2020 said that he was misquoted.
He said “My attention has been drawn to misleading reports by section of the media purportedly made and attributed to me, calling government to slashes civil servants salaries during lockdown pandemic.
For the purpose of clarity, and records, it is pertinent to state that i myself was a civil servant and cannot condone anything that will add salts to already injuries of workers.
I was entirely misquoted and my words were taken out of context in the said media reports especially the one that said ” Senator Ndume call for civil servants salaries slashes now that they are working at home “
Nowhere in the engagement with the media did i said so.
I didn’t say that only civil servants salaries should be slashed but all public servants especially top ones stating with NASS members and political appointees.
I said personal cost, overhead, and current costs that consumes 70% of the budget should be reviewed especially now that oil prices and market demand is down.
We have to borrow which is not sustainable.
It is worthy to note that during the media engagement, i suggested that public servants like us should be converted to part time and paid sitting allowances not salaries during pandemic period which wasn’t reflected in the media reports.
