La Liga Match reports: Barcelona strikes to relegate Espanyol.

Barcelona 1-0 Espanyol

Before now Espanyol has not been relegated away from the Spain’s top division for the past 26-years. But did so in the hands of Barcelona in a match that was really tricky as both teams were reduced to ten men.

But Luis Suarez’s 56th minute goal proved to be the difference helping Espanyol out of the League. Espanyol needed only a victory to still give them hope of not being relegated but only the opposite could happen as Espanyol found themselves relegated for the first time since 1994. They were actually given hopes as Ansu Fati was sent off five minutes after coming on in the second half, only for parity to be restored with Pol Lozano being dismissed for Espanyol also.

Luis Suarez’s goal moved him past László Kubala and takes him third place in Barcelona’s all-time scoring list.

Espanyol was the better side in the first half as Barca could not even get one single shot on target for the first 45 minutes, but could’nt make good use of their chances.

The victory moves Barcelona to just a point below Real Madrid who has a game today.
