Land overlordship in Kogi: A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja has set aside the earlier ruling on land case

A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja has on Wednesday July 15, 2020 granted the stay of Execution of an earlier judgment on the matter between the Attah Igala and the Attorney General of the federation.

Recall that a Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja had earlier in a judgment which was delivered on 2nd of June, 2020 ceded the rulership and royalty of Ajaokuta, Lokoja, and Kogi local government areas to Attah Igala, Michael Ameh Oboni.

The presiding judge, Justice Gabriel Okwo while delivering his ruling for stay of Execution said the interested parties which includes the three affected local government areas had filled an application wanting to join as in the case and he has granted the application hence, the need for stay of execution on the case.

Consequently, Justice Gabriel Okwo has granted leave for the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Dr Ado Ibrahim, the Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Muhammadu Kabiru Maikafi, the Ohi of Eganyi, and the Ohimegye Kotonkarfe, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Isah Koto to be joined as interest parties.

Justice Okwo further stressed that parties seeking to be joined have shown sufficient reasons to be joinders.

However, with this last latest judgment, the control and royalty of the three local government areas has been reversed to back to them and the status quo maintained.
