In Belarus, women have formed “solidarity chains” to condemn the violent action taken on protests after the disputed re-election of Alexander Lukashenko.

Many dressed in white and carried flowers as they marched.

Thousands of people have been arrested and at least two have died in clashes with authorities.

The UN has condemned the use of violence by police.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, said that the mass-arrests were a “clear violation of international human rights standards”.
