NEMA,SEMA, SSA on Security Kogi LGA meets for sensitisation on natural disaster control

NEMA, SEMA and SA to Kogi State Government on Sanitation and Emergency Management meet with the SSA on Security, Kogi Local Government, Hon. Isah Abdulkarim for Sensitisation on Natural Disaster Control

The Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters, Kogi Local Government on Friday host delegations from the National Emergency Management Agency, State Emergency Management Agency and the Special Adviser to Kogi State Government on Sanitation and Emergency Management, Hon. Imam Salih in his office.

In his opening remarks, the leader of the delegation of NEMA highlight the essence of the sensitisation and the need to apply safety measures, says, research from various reliable sources revealed there are stringent warning that in the coming days, we may experience excessive amount of rainfall which may also translate to especially, flooding and other natural hazards.

He states further that, the national emergency management agency are well equipped to render assistance to victims of these hazards but warned that, vulnerable residents should be cautious and quickly relocate to uplands once the signs are noticed.

The SA on Sanitation and Emergency Management in his quick reactions appreciate the efforts of the SSA on Security and the change he’s brought to the council in his short stay of office, he also adds that, his office will do everything necessary and within its powers to ensure that everyone is safely evacuated and catered for, but warned that, residents shouldn’t sleep on the warnings of the National Emergency Management Agency by been vigilant of the signs, he concludes.

The SSA on Security, Hon. ECOMOG thanked the federal government and its staff and also the representatives of Nigeria Red Cross Society. He further states that, proper planning and forecast is key and his office is interested on how NEMA intend to fix these areas, notes that, in the past, victims of these natural hazards are cheated, unfairly treated and made miserable due to poor handling and mismanagement of the relief items, adding that these relief materials are often inaccurately distributed and the beneficiaries are in most cases denied.

Hon. ECOMOG pleads with the management to liaise with his office for proper census and effective distribution and control of the relief items, he conclude.
