- He hails from Yobe State.
- He is an alumnus of Bayero University, Kano, and the University of Maiduguri.
- He joined the Nigeria Police Force in March 1988.
- Until his appointment, Baba was head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID).
