Akwa Ibom Job Seeker, Ini Umoren Raped , Murder and burried in Shallow Grave was an Orphan, Police Confirmed

Police in Akwa Ibom have given an insight into the gruesome murder of a graduate of Philosophy from the University of Uyo, Miss Ini Umoren, who went missing after going for a job interview in Nung Ikot Obio, Uruan Local Government Area, few kilometers from Uyo, the State Capital.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Amiengheme Andrew in a statement issued today by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Odiko MacDon said the principal suspect, Uduak Frank Akpan who is in the Police net, has confessed to have lured the orphan girl to his house in the guise of giving her a job, but ended up sexually and physically assaulting her leading to her death.

To cover his tracks, the Police Boss said Akpan, who claimed to be 20 years old, dragged and buried the victim, who was awaiting NYSC call up, in a shallow grave in his father’s compound.

He said the body has been exhumed and deposited at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

CP Andrew pointed out that “the suspect confessed to have told his Local Government Chairman of his atrocity before escaping to Calabar and was never at anytime handed over to the Police by anyone.”

The Commissioner of Police described Uduak Frank Akpan “as a serial rapist who has owned up to the raping of other victims.”

He said the suspect would be charged to Court at the conclusion of investigation.

The Commissioner advised young people and job seekers to be wary of the activities of scammers and other men of the underworld.
