Respect Nnamdi Kanu’s rights, Fani-Kayode, Sani Shehu Urge FG

Nigeria’s former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and former lawmaker, Shehu Sani have called on the Federal Government to respect the rights of the rearrested leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, while he is in its custody.

The rearrest of Nnamdi Kanu was announced on Tuesday by the FG. He was taken to court, where he was detained in the custody of the Department of State Services till July 26.

Via their respective Twitter handles, the politicians opined that it was important for the FG to respect Kanu’s rights as he stand trial for various allegations of inciting violence, terrorism and others.

Fani-Kayode tweeted, “It is no longer news that #MaziNnamdiKanu has been arrested and detained. I advise the FG to ensure that he does not die in custody and that he is treated with decency, decorum and respect.”

Meanwhile, the former Kaduna lawmaker stated that Kanu’s trial must be devoid of vengeance, sentiments and bigotry.

He said, “The fundamental rights of Nnamdi Kanu should be respected in compliance with the relevant articles of the constitution of the FRN. His trial should be guided by justice, fairness and the rule of law and not sentiments, prejudice, hate, ill feelings, vengeance or bigotry.”
