Governor Sani Bello congratulates Comrade Isiguzo On Reelection as NUJ President

CALLS FOR IDEOLOGICAL SHIFT IN THE REPORTAGE OF ISSUES OF NATIONAL INTEREST

Niger State Governor and Chairman North Central States Governor’s Forum (NCSGF), Abubakar Sani Bello has congratulated Comrade Chris Isiguzo on his reelection as President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The Governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary Mary Noel Berje, said the overwhelming reelection of Comrade Chris Isiguzo and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) is a reflection, satisfaction and approval of his leadership ability.

Comrade Chris Isiguzo and members of the NWC were reelected at the Union’s 7th Triennial Delegates Conference held, Thursday, in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

While applauding the hitch free conduct of the election, the Governor tasked Comrade Isiguzo and his team to relentlessly pursue their agenda of revamping the Journalism profession to its deserved pedestal in the country.

Governor Sani Bello, who described Journalists as essential partners of the government in the task of nation building, urged the leadership of Comrade Isiguzo to ensure it identifies and eliminate those quacks smearing the image of the noble profession in the country.

“I believe in the abilities of the NUJ President and his team to use their wealth of experience in addressing most of the challenges that affect the practice of journalism profession in the country, particularly the welfare of its members”, he said.

The Governor also charged Journalists to always imbibe high ethical standards and social responsibility in the routine discharge of their duties stressing that the reportage of the security challenges and other sociopolitical agitations in the country today has called for a nationalistic approach to reporting from the practitioners.

“You must always remember that you are role models and society’s focal lens, hence the need to be exemplary in the discharge of your duties for the growth and development of the Journalism profession in particular and the country in general”, he added.

While wishing the newly elected president and his team a successful tenure, Governor Sani Bello said his administration will continue to align with the credible leadership of the union to reposition the Media industry.
