A 39-year-old bricklayer, Monday Effiong Philip, who killed his 68-year-old father whom he accused of being a wizard, responsible for inability of his wife to be pregnant, is to spend the rest of his life in prison.
Philip, a native of Mbiakpan Atan in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, was sentenced today to life imprisonment for manslaughter.
The judgement was handed down this morning by Justice Bassey Nkanang of Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo.
“The lone issue for determination herein is resolved, in part, in favour of the Prosecution and arising from the facts and findings, the accused person is hereby found guilty of manslaughter punishable under Section 322 of the Criminal Code, Cap 380, Laws of Akwa Ibom State and accordingly convicted.” The Court held.
