Reno Omokri in his recent post give insight on how President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerian government has marginalized Hausas despite they are the major tribes in the Northwest.
Omokri said:
As bad as the South is being marginalised under Buhari, it is worse for Hausas. I am not sure there is a single Hausa Governor in Nigeria at the moment. All of the Governors in the Northwest are Fulani, including Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara and Jigawa Governors.
The Governors in other Northern zones are either Fulani, Kanuri, or Northern minorities.
And then you consider the ministers. A lot of the ministers from the Northwest are also Fulani. The top ranks in the military and civil service also follow this pattern.
Yet, the Hausa are arguably a majority ethnicity in the Northwest.
This lack of power balance is one of the main reasons behind the tension in the Northwest.
If Southern Nigeria wants to restructure Nigeria, we must begin to understand that there is nothing like Hausa-Fulani. It is a myth created by the Southern elite and their media. You are either Fulani or Hausa. And guess what? Both ethnicities do not necessarily like each other. They are only united by a common opponent-the South.
And until Southern Nigeria sees the Hausas for what they are, a fellow marginalised ethnicity, and forms a brotherly bond with them, to restructure Nigeria, our tomorrow will look like our yesterday.
