Energy poverty in Africa is as important as our climate ambitions – VP Osinbajo

Osibanjo said:

Here in Africa, the problem of energy poverty is as important as our climate ambitions; it drives a clear need for African nations to engage more critically and vocally in conversations on our global climate future.

Thankfully, the continent is rising to the challenge, and we have exemplified this in Nigeria through the launch of our Energy Transition Plan.
It is our response to the need to take ownership of our transition pathways and design climate-sensitive strategies that address our growth objectives.

This Plan was designed to tackle the dual crises of energy poverty and climate change and deliver SDG7 by 2030 and net-zero by 2060, while centring the provision of energy for development, industrialization, and economic growth.

As we had the global launch of Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan today, it is timely to note that by working together we can make this moment count not just for country, but for Africa and the world.
