NANPF donates to ailing ex-Nigeria AFCON winner

National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers, NANPF, has made a cash donation to ailing ex-Nigeria 1980 AFCON winner, Charles Bassey, MON.

Bassey, an Akwa Ibom State-born, former Wikki Tourists, Kwara United, Calabar Rovers and Mobil Pegasus FC Coach, has been suffering from an illness known as “Nerves Root Compression” which has almost rendered him bedridden for the past few years.

Making a cash donation of Fifty-five Thousand Naira (N55,000.00) to Charles Bassey in Uyo, Sunday, on behalf of the national President of NANPF, Mr. Tijani Babangida, the State Chairman of the Association, Comrade Morris Silas disclosed that Bassey was selected among the first set of national beneficiaries of the Association’s largesse to vulnerable ex-Nigeria footballers.

Receiving the donation in front of his children at his residence, an elated Charles Bassey thanked NANPF for identifying with him in his dark days and used the occasion to solicit more support from Government, corporate organizations and other concerned individuals.

The donation from NANPF follows an earlier donation, a few weeks ago, of N100,000 from the Council Chairman of Surulere LG of Lagos State, Mr. Ajide Yusuf Tajudeen.
