ALUMINIUM HYDROXIDE

Function

Antacid; it is used to neutralized the concentration of acid, often in the stomach.

Usage

It often use to treat pelvic ulcer and gastric related disease of the stomach

Availability

Come in 500mg  tablets

Many preparation of aluminium and or magnesium hydroxide come with different dosage

Prescription

Children above  5 years which did not often show symptom. Half of the tablet should be given  in 3 divided dose/days

Adult should be given 3 to 6 tablet in one divided doses/day immediately after meals  or during a painful attack, should be given 1 tablet.

Duration of Administration: duration of the treatment depend on the clinical respond of the patient to the treatment.

Adverse Effect

When the drugs, it may result to constipation, otherwise, when the drugs compose of the following; magnesium salt and magnesium hydroxide.

Advice

The following drugs which decrease the intestinal absorption of many should not be administered simultaneously 2 hour interval should be adhere to when possible to administered any of the drugs when taken aluminum hydroxide;

Isoniazid

Chloroquine

Digoxin

Ethambutanol

Atenolol

Thyroxine

Ketoconazole

Idometacin

Etc

Pregnant women; no contra indication

Breast feeding; no contra indication
