HOW TO HANDLE HIGH RISK SAMPLE

High risk sample can be define as a sample that is suspected to carry the following high risk infections, such as HIV, HBsAg, Tuberclosis etc

High risk sample like the one stated previously or any sample suspected to contain high risk pathogen of such nature should be properly handle with correct step of containment in the laboratory. Some other step that is necessary to handle high risk infection are listed bellow;

  1. Never lay a specimen culture or serum container on a bench, make sure that it always place in it rack or tin.
  2. Tube or culture plate should be clearly label with it number
  3. Keep the working bench clean and clear from congestion in case of accident, shoul limited affected material involved.
  4. All material and apparatus should be carefully handled via manufacturer instruction.
  5. When you are done with work, always discard the remaining sample in an appropriate receptacle for sterilization or incineration, before final discard.
  6. Never remove any sample or culture discard until sterilization is fully achieved.
  7. Never eat, smoke, drink the laboratory
  8. Never pipette directly with mouth always used vacuum pressure pipette or automatic pipette.
  9. Always use adhesive tape, never lick or gummed label.
  10. Always report any accident to laboratory instruction or HOD
  11. Always wear hand glove when handling specimen
  12. Always disinfect working bench before and after work day
  13. Always wash your hand with soap and water after handling any specimen, before and after living the laboratory.
  14. Disposable paper or continues roller should be used to reduces possible cross infection.
