The Deputy Govenor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Chief Edward Onoja, on Saturday represented the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, as the Federal University Lokoja held a combined 3rd and 4th convocation at its permanent site in Felele, Lokoja the State’s capital.
In his address, Chief Onoja assured the institution that Governor Yahaya Bello would continue to provide support in areas of ancillary infrastructure and security to ensure adequate academic prosperity for the noble institution along other tertiary institutions within the state.
In his counsel, he posits, beyond formal education, your success after now lies more in your passion and vision and actions than the piece of paper you will receive today.
He advised the graduands to develop entrepreneurial mindsets as it would instantly transform them into persons needed in the factor of production processes that leads to self reliance and sustainability.
The Deputy Governor reminded them to work hard to be able to ultimately mobilise the other factors of production; including capital, labour and land – to make their dreams come true.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Angela Miri, had in her address applauded the Kogi State Government for continued and unalloyed support to the institution and appealed for further assistance to help the university grow.
She noted that the support enjoyed by her from the government has in no small measure helped her to achieve the many laudable academic and non academic successes since her assumption of office.
A total of 642 graduands in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Faculty of Science were convoked with 22 bagging first class and others receiving various classes of degrees.
Dignitaries present at the event were the Representative of the visitor to the institution; the Deputy Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Ahmed Mohammed; the Secretary to the State Government, Dr (Mrs) Folashade Ayoade; staunch leader in the Kogi East Elders Forum, Architect Gabriel Aduku; Arch Bishop of Lokoja Anglican Diocese, Most Rev Emmanuel Egbunu; among others.
