The Nasarawa State Government is seeking to strengthen its collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), particularly in the areas of agriculture, industrialization and corporate social responsibility, among others.
Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule disclosed this while chatting with journalists at the Government House, shortly after his return from Saudi Arabia, on Sunday.
Engineer Sule who has been away on lesser Hajj, used the opportunity to visit the headquarters of the IDB in Jedda, Saudi Arabia, in a bid to further strengthen the existing ties between the international development bank and Nasarawa State.
According to the Governor, he met with the IDB in order to explore areas of opportunities towards strengthening the collaboration with the state and for the IDB to continue to support Nasarawa State.
Engineer Sule said he met with officials of the bank to explore opportunities in agriculture and industrialization.
He expressed gratitude to meet with the bank’s Vice President for African Affairs, Dr. Mansur Muhtar, Nigeria’s former minister of finance.
“We were looking at other areas where they can support us some more. We have so many areas where we strongly believe in the areas of corporate social responsibility that the bank provides.
“In the areas of facilities that the bank provides at very reasonable and accommodating rates that we can afford to even use the opportunity to take off if there are any other facility that we have that are accruing interest.
“We looked at all those areas and then there are areas of social support that they give in the areas of teaching, training, as well as ICT and the rest of that,” the Governor further explained.
Engineer Sule disclosed in addition, that he also used the opportunity of his holy visit to Saudi Arabia to inspect various sites for accommodation as part of preparations for pilgrims from Nasarawa State ahead of next year’s holy pilgrimage.
He expressed desire to improve on the standards from the accommodation and feeding arrangements for pilgrims from the state from that of last year, which was adjudged to have been satisfactory.
