Bundesliga Round Up: Week 30

Bayern Munich continues fine form.

The bundesliga resumed this weekend with matches taking place across stadiums all over the country. Beginning the weekend was Frieburg who defeated Borussia Mochengladbach 1 goal to nil yesterday. The only goal of the match came in the 58th minute with a goal by N Petersen enough to the give the host a victory right there in the Mage Solar Stadion.

Frieburg has now moved up to 7th place right above Hertha Berlin who plays the last match of today against Borrussia Dortmund who is also looking to continue their good form against a Hertha Berlin side who are undefeated since the restart. Hertha who is not easy to score against these days won their last match against Augsburg 2 goals to nil putting them in a very good position to push for a Europea postion. They need to be more watchful now because they face a Dortmund side who’s not afraid of scoring goals, having a player like Jadon Sancho who scored an Hatrick in his last match in their ranks and also with the return of Alex Witsel and Emre Can back from injury victory looks blurry for Hertha Berlin.

Bayern Leverkusen vs Bayern Munich

It was a routine win for the league leaders Bayern on Saturday who went on to further strengthen their hold of the German bundesliga top spot. With five matches left to play Bayern Munich just needs two more victories to totally claim the title and with their present form now i think that’s possible.
Though Leverkusen showed fine start in the beginning of the game, opening scoring in the 9th minute from Luca Alario’s goal. The visitors responded in an overwhelming pattern which gave them a lead before half time with goals from Kingsley Coman,Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry making sure of that.
Leverkusen who were witout their star man,Kai Havertz could not stop Bayern even after the break with the ever blazing Robert Lewandowski banging in a 4th on the day for Bayern his 30th Bundesliga goal of the season -44th in all competitions midway through the second half thereby putting Bayern out of sight it still wasn’t meant to be for Leverkusen despite a late consolation from Florian Writz lost the match 2- to 4. Victory sees Bayern lead Dortmund and RB Liepzig in the race for the title.

RB Liepzig vs Paderborn

With players like Timo Werner, Marcel Sabitzer and Patrik Schick giving Leipzig beautiful play on the pitch, firing at all cylinders victory was said to be certain for Liepzig. But that wasn’t meant to be with 10 man Liepzig,Ending the match with an unexpected draw caused by a stoppage time goal by. Christian Strohdiek.Leipzig damaged all hopes of a title shot.

Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Hoffenheim

Fortuna Dusseldorf missed the chance to stay on Mainz’s coattails as they were held to a frustrating 2-2 draw at home to Hoffenheim.

Rouwen Hennings got Fortuna off to the perfect start with the opening goal inside five minutes, and things took a turn for the worse for Hoffenheim three minutes later when captain Benjamin Hubner was shown a straight red card for an altercation at a corner.

The visitors rallied to the early setbacks though, with Munas Dabbur equalised on 16 minutes and luck looked to be on their side when Hennings had a second headed goal ruled out two minutes later after VAR spotted a foul in the build-up.

Steven Zuber put then put the 10 men in front on the hour, but they couldn’t hold onto the win as fatigue set in, with Hennings doubling his tally with a late penalty to secure Fortuna a point on an afternoon where they should have had three.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Mainz

It took just 30 seconds for Martin Hinteregger to try to add to his eight league goals this season and, although the burly defender’s long-range strike rolled harmlessly wide, it was an early sign of intent from the hosts. Frankfurt continued with a swagger, as Almany Toure and Filip Kostic both went close, but for all their dominance, the hosts struggled to carve out clear-cut chances. Following a handful of warnings at the other end from first Robin Quaison and then Taiwo Awoniyi, Niakhate emphatically met Daniel Brosinski’s outswinging corner with a thumping header to put Mainz in front on the stroke of half-time.

Adi Hütter called on substitutes Timothy Chandler and Mijat Gacinovic for the restart and they immediately pressed for an equaliser courtesy of a series of menacing Kostic corners in the early exchanges of the second period. But their blunt edge was still proving costly and Die Adler were only spared a second Mainz goal by the offside flag as Jean-Philippe Mateta strayed ever so slightly before applying a clinical finish that would have been his third goal of the season. The home side were riding their luck, with Quaison having an equally accomplished breakaway goal almost identically chalked out with just over 20 minutes to play. Mainz didn’t have to wait long finally to add a legitimate second, substitute Kunde racing through and sliding the ball underneath Kevin Trapp to wrap up a vital three points in their bid for survival.

Werder Bremen 0-1 Wolfsburg

Bremen made the brighter start on home soil but it was visitors Wolfsburg who had the first sight of goal, with Josip Brekalo cutting inside and flashing an effort wide of the post. The Wolves’ top scorer Weghorst then found himself one-on-one with Jiri Pavlenka after a lovely touch to get away from Milos Veljkovic, but the Czech keeper got a hand to the Dutchman’s dinked attempt, allowing Veljkovic to clear off the line. Both sides were looking well-organised defensively, with Maximilian Arnold putting his body on the line to block Josh Sargent, and Kevin Vogt in the right place to deflect Admir Mehmedi’s side-footed shot out for a corner. The best chance of the half fell to Bremen’s Yuya Osako on the half-hour mark, but the Japan forward’s well-struck effort was palmed away by Koen Casteels as the two sides cancelled each other out in an entertaining first 45 minutes.

Chances were at a premium early in the second half, with Davy Klaassen seeing an effort blocked by USA defender John Brooks and Ludwig Augustinsson fizzing a free-kick just over. The heavens opened just after the hour mark, with the torrential rain making for difficult playing conditions as both coaches brought on fresh legs. Wolves midfielder Xaver Schlager fired over after a training-ground corner routine, before unleashing a glorious long-range effort that clipped the top of the crossbar. The game appeared to be heading for a goalless draw until Kevin Mbabu made a key interception in midfield and fed substitute Felix Klaus, whose inch-perfect cross from the right was headed home by Weghorst – his first goal since the Bundesliga restart. The visitors had opportunities to add to their lead, with Weghorst going close again and Brekalo drawing a smart stop from Pavlenka. Bremen threw everything they had at the Wolves in the final minutes but failed to avoid an 11th defeat in 15 home games this season. Florian Kohfeldt’s side remain three points adrift of the relegation play-off place and six from outright safety.

Union Berlin 1-1 Schalke

Both sides came into this game at the Stadion an der Alten Försterei in poor form since the Bundesliga’s resumption, but Union were quickest out the blocks as Marius Bülter teed up Yunus Malli inside just five minutes, but he placed his effort from close range straight at Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nübel. The hosts made no mistake with their next effort, though, countering from a free-kick through Anthony Ujah, who picked out Robert Andrich ahead of him to round off the break with his first Bundesliga goal. The Berliners dominated the opening 20 minutes, but were stunned just before the half-hour mark when Everton loanee Jonjoe Kenny unleashed a rocket from 25 yards to level proceedings with the Royal Blues’ first effort on goal.

The second half proved a tense affair with the play regularly interrupted by fouls in midfield. It meant chances were at a premium and neither goalkeeper was really tested. Rabbi Matondo had Schalke’s best opportunity when his effort on the stretch went over the bar, meaning Rafal Gikiewicz went the entire game without making a save. The best chance, though, fell to Marvin Friedrich when a Christopher Trimmel corner was flicked on, but Nübel rescued Schalke. The draw extends both sides’ winless runs in the league, with Union now on a seven-game wait for three points and Schalke even longer at 12 matches. It leaves Die Eisernen four points clear of Fortuna Düsseldorf in 16th and the relegation play-off, while the Royal Blues remain in the bottom half of the table.

Augsburg 1-1 Fc Köln

Augsburg couldn’t capitalise on their opportunity to move above köln in the league Standings as all they could take out of the match was a draw goal a piece thereby staying 13th, three points behind köln on the standings 5 points above the summit of the league with 5 matches left.
