Lagos First Lady expresses worry over rise in rape

Lagos first lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, said that it is disheartening that there is an increase in rape cases during and despite the COVID 19 pandemic.

Sanwo-Olu, therefore, called on Nigerian men to follow the pattern of the ongoing massive anti-racism protest in United States of America against sexual and gender-based violence, to serve as a deterrent against rape and its perpetrators.

Dr. Sanwo-Olu stated this while receiving participants at a special all-male awareness walk, organised by Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) in collaboration with Partnership for Justice and Mirabel Centre.

She further advised that not only should we teach our girls how to avoid being raped, our boys should be taught the dangers in it.

She also expressed grief, saying that the current pandemic is enough hardship on people and rape should be farfetched
