Gov. Zulum Attends The Official Ground Breaking Ceremony of 10,000 Mass Housing programme Under Presidential Special Intervention at Ngwom Village as well as formal Handing – over of Health facilities denoted at stadium IDPs Camp.
His Excellency Gov. Zulum was the Chief Host at the formal Ground Breaking Ceremony of 10,000 mass housing intervention programme by the Hon. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster management and social Development at Ngwom Village. In an opening remark, the Managing Director of North East Development Commission(NEDC) Alhaji Muhammad Alkali lamented that Borno State has lost over 60% in terms of Housing stock and the deficit in housing must be addressed. Informing that the president has approved 10,000 Mass Housing for filling this gap at a start. Other housing units will be spread across the Local Government Areas of the state. He stressed that Borno State deserves not less than additional 20,000 housing units. The houses will be build soonest in order to decongest the IDP camps in the state.
His Excellency in his Remark stated that Borno State is witnessing another giant support from president Muhammadu Buhari. Maintained that the construction of 10,000 Mass Housing unit in the State is timely and commendable. What we are witnessing today is the construction of 1000 Houses in Ngwom Village and the remaining 9,000 houses will be spread across the Local Government Areas of the state. The Governor informed the dignitaries that Borno State is hosting over 1.5 million IDPs, though, the Government of Borno State has promised to close all IDP camps in MMC and Jere on or before 31st May 2021.
This pledge will be fulfiled these with the support from the NEDC under the distinguished leadership of the Hon. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster management and social intervention as we witnessed today. The Governor appreciated the efforts of The Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari for developing the North East sub-region.
The Hon. Minister formally broke the ground for the construction of 1,000 housing unit.
The Governor, then, led the team for the inspection of the site where the construction is going to be sited.
The delegation proceeded to Stadium IDP camp where Hon. Minister commissioned Health Facilities and Ambulance to the IDP camp donated by the NEDC.
The Governor appreciated the Minister and NEDC were he promised that the State Government will ensure the prompt use and maintenance of the facilities.
