Protests, violence over Lukashenko’s re-election
Belarus is currently in a state of chaos as there have been clashes between protesters and authorities on the streets.
This unrest can be attributed to the disputed results of the country’s election which were announced earlier.
The results reported that the leader for over two decades, Alexander Lukashenko won 80% of the vote.
This year’s election comes amid growing signs of frustration at the country’s authoritarian leadership.
Many protesters chanted “get out” and other anti-government slogans, as riot police fired stun grenades, used batons, and made arrests as they dispersed the demonstrators.
