Edo election: Obaseki bags chieftaincy title in Oshiomhole's hometown.

 

– Governor Godwin Obaseki has bagged a new chieftaincy title in Edo state

– The chieftaincy title comes few weeks to the Edo state governorship election

– The title was invested on the governor by the Ogieneni of Uzairue, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Imonikhe Kadiri Omogbai IV

The Ogieneni of Uzairue, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Imonikhe Kadiri Omogbai IV, has invested Edo state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki with the Onoshiorena of Uzairue (The One God has Crowned) chieftaincy title.

The monarch said the recognition is due to the role of God in the affairs of the governor.

Also installed was the deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, who is now the Oshiozekhai (It is God that chooses) of Uzairue Clan in Etsako West local government area of Edo state.

The clan consists of over twenty villages including Iyamho – the home of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, ex-national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and political rival of the governor.

The event took place on Thursday, August 13 during the governor’s visit to the traditional ruler at his palace, as part of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s campaign rally in Edo north senatorial district.

Meanwhile, the PDP in Edo on Wednesday, August 12 welcomed 3,000 new members in Owan East local government area of the state.

The defectors who are former members of the APC, declared support for the PDP when the campaign train of Governor Obaseki visited the area in continuation of the governor’s ward-to-ward campaign.

Leader of PDP in Owan East, Senator Yisa Braimoh, said the mass defection is a testament of the popularity of Governor Obaseki and his performance in the last three years and eight months.

Braimoh who commended the governor for the successes recorded by his administration in infrastructural development, healthcare, and education, among other sectors of the state, assured Obaseki of over 85 per cent of the total vote cast in the region.

In a related development, a former aide to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Mr Andrew Momodu, has pledged the sum of N5 million to support the re-election bid of Governor Obaseki.

Momodu made the pledge on behalf of Anwain Progressives Union, the umbrella Union of Anwain Clan, on Tuesday, August 11 at the PDP governorship campaign rally in Ward 8, Anwain, Etsako west local government area of Edo state.

Similarly, the Obaseki family of Benin Kingdom has endorsed their son, the Edo state governor, for a second term in office, citing his laudable people-oriented projects and programmes, which they say must be allowed to continue.

At the meeting held in Benin city on Monday, August 10, the family head (Okaegbe), Pa George Obaseki, said they are very proud of their son for his indelible and widely acclaimed achievements in office.
