Senate Reject Appointment of Lauretta Onochie by Buhari As INEC Commissioner

The Senate has on Tuesday, 13th of July 2021, rejected the confirmation of Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the INEC.

Chairman of the Committee, Kabiru Gaya, in his report said Onochie did not satisfy the provisions of the Federal Character Principles.

The Senate at the committee of the whole subsequently voted against her nomination.

Recall that Nigerians and other political parties had earlier condemned the appointment of Lauretta Onochie as the INEC commissioner.

According to some of the comment by PDP who kick against the appointment, said that APC has plan to rigs 2023 elections.

Lauretta Onochie is a core President Muhammad Buhari support.

She is one of the backbone the brought Buhari to power in 2015.

She also a strong supporter of his re-election in 2018.

But in reaction to the condemnation of her appointment, she claimed to have renounced be a member of APC since 2019.
