METHOD
For examination of Na/K, set up 4 tubes this is shown below;

Deionized water | 10ml | 10ml | 10ml | 10ml |

- make sure that the sample standard preparation is well mixed
- The air compressor should be switch on and the air pressure should be adjusted.
- The atomizer is channel of introducing deionized water, so make sure that the deionized water is introduce via atomizer.
- The gas should be switch on and the flame adjusts when it is adjusted properly, it is expected that it give a sharp fine cone flame.
- Filter of both Sodium and Potassium should be place simultaneously in an appropriate place.
- Then set the machine to zero using deionized water.
- Standard 1 should be place, adjust the potassium and sodium to 2.0 and 120.0
- Standard 2 and 3 should check to make sure it displays the same concentration for both potassium and sodium.
- Then diluted serum should be introduced and appropriate reading of both potassium and sodium noted and recorded.
NB: Blood sample left standing for more than 4 hours before separating the plasma/serum from the red cell is not good for the test, because there will be a leakage of electrolyte when the sample is left for more than 4 hours.
